Insurance and blockchain

Blockchain is disrupting financial services for the better. It has the potential to create a fairer, more secure system, that works for everyone. These are values that we deeply believe in, and we think insurance should be at the heart of this disruption.

Whether it’s simplifying the customer’s onboarding process, automating underwriting and claims handling, or even detecting fraud more effectively, blockchain can help us all create something better.

Why join?

Judges and mentors

From blockchain gurus to insurance experts, our diverse panel has been hand selected for our Break the Block. You’ll have the opportunity to pick their brains, tap into their experience, and show off your skills to the leading specialists in blockchain and insurance.

Who should attend Break the Block?
We’re happy to hear from anyone in development or insurance who’s interested in attending, but we’d like to know a little bit about you first. For example, if you’re a developer with little blockchain experience, it may be worth joining the likes of London Ethereum Codeup beforehand.
Why can’t I register immediately?
The number of spaces will be limited. We want to make sure we have a balanced set of hackers, and prepare everyone accordingly. For instance, we may organise a pre-hack level up for insurance professionals unclear on blockchain.
Where is the Break the Block happening?
Break the Block will be taking place at a location in London. We’ll announce the venue once we have a final list of attendees.

Can I enter Break the Block with an existing product?
No, it’ll need to be built from scratch during the Break the Block. But that’s all part of the hackathon spirit, surely?
Which blockchain technology can I use?
It’s entirely up to you. Our mentors and judges will be Ethereum focussed, but you’re welcome to work on any blockchain technology you’re comfortable with.
Who owns the IP of any successful hack?
You and your team - after all, it’s you who put the work in. We’re here to support and facilitate the growth of blockchain, hacking as we go! If you’ve got a great idea, it’s entirely yours.
